Braemar Creative Arts Festival

The 4th annual Creative Arts Festival was the busiest and most popular to date. There were 21 tutors delivering 50 classes to more than 250 people over the 5 day period. Add to that the attendance at the evening events, the visitors who came to see the spectacular floral bridge, the families who did the mushroom trail and the many people who flocked to the Braemarket in the village hall on the last day and you will see that the Festival had something to offer almost everyone.

The committee was delighted to see the amusing and creative Cam Ruadhs which attended the event. The Cam Ruadhs were judged by Marie Therese Allison (the wife of Finlay, our Ukulele tutor) and there were 3 winners. In the under 10 section MacGinger, made by Braemar cubs Jack, Morgan, Amy, Jamie, Ranolph and Logan, all members of the Green Grouse group, won. The prize for the 10 – 18 age group went to the Braemar Youth Group, and the adult winners were the Deeside Knitwits who had very creatively recycled their patchwork squares into a stunning Cam Ruadh.

Twenty one entries for the Braemar Bake- off meant a challenging task for judges, Mike Watt and Isla Robertson. They diligently tasted all 21 cakes, and were in no doubt that the winning Victoria Sponge was one made by 13 year old Ewen McGillivray from Turriff. Runners up were Karen Biles and Sue Sherrard.

We are always looking for new ideas for events and classes so please let us know if there’s anything you would like to add to the Festival in 2016 by emailing braemarartsfestival@gmail.com
